Biography:
Laura is a Professor in Biomedical Engineering at The University of New South Wales (UNSW Australia). She has also held appointments as visiting research Professor at Rutgers University in the USA and as preclinical scientist in the biomedical industry working on development of implantable devices including wound dressings and embolic agents for cancer treatment. For 10 years up to 2012, Laura was a member of the Australian Commonwealth Government statutory Advisory Committee on Medical Devices which is concerned with advising the Therapeutic Goods Administration on the safety of medical devices. She is currently an Associate Editor on leading journal in the field, Biomaterials.
Areas of research interest:
1. Incorporating functional biological molecules into hydrogels and conducting polymers for application to medical devices.
2. Cell and drug delivery in neural and cardiovascular applications.
3. Cell and tissue interactions with biomaterials and medical devices.
