Biography:

Undergraduate training – BASc (Eng Physics, U Toronto, Canada 1961); Post-grad training & work experience – PhD (Metallurgy, Leeds U, UK, 1965); PDF (Metallurgy, McMaster U, Canada 1965-67), Research Eng, (International Nickel Inc, Sterling Forest NY, USA, 1967-69), Research Scientist, Ont Res Fndtn, Sheridan Park, ON, Canada, 1969-78), Univ of Toronto (Professor, 1978-2005; Prof Emeritus, 2005-present); research in biomaterials (design of bone-interfacing orthopaedic and dental implants) 1970 to present; current activities – design of biodegradable bioceramics and composites for bone/joint reconstruction & trauma treatment; society memberships (Canadian Biomater Soc, Soc for Biomater (USA), Orthop Res Soc, P Eng (Ontario); Awards – Clemson Award – Applied Biomater Res – SFB (US) (1989), Fellow, Biomater Sci and Eng (1996), John T Hamilton Distinguished Lecturer, Dentistry – U of Western Ontario (1999), ASTM – Award for Excellence in Symposium & Publication Management (2000), Alumini Award of Merit, U of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry (2008).
