Biography:

Prof. Dr. Anita Ignatius is Director of the Institute of Orthopedic Research and Biomechanics at Ulm University, a multidisciplinary research team focusing on the regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues, such as bone, cartilage, ligaments and intervertebral discs, and on skeletal biomechanics. Her personal research interests are basic aspects of regeneration of tissues after trauma with focus on bone, mechanobiology of bone, and biomaterials for bone defect treatment. She coordinated various local and national research networks and was involved in several EU-funded projects mainly in the field of bone tissue engineering and biomaterials research. Currently, she heads the Transdisciplinary Centre of Trauma Research at Ulm University and co-directs the Collaborative Research Centre “Danger Response, Disturbance Factors and Regenerative Potential after Acute Trauma.”

Areas of research interest:

Regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues, biomaterials for bone defect healing, bone grafts, stem cells, tissue engineering, cartilage and meniscus regeneration, musculoskeletal biomechanics

Research keywords:
